  1. This is an astonishing, well researched post. Thank you so much for bringing this history to light. My great-grandfather rabbi Samuel Pritzker, great-grandmother Yetta Talansky and grandmother Betty (then-Basia) Pritzker lived in Golovenevsk into the early 1920s. Samuel and Yetta were married there October 5, 1914. Per family oral history they left after the pogroms (assuming 8/4/1919) and I found naturalization records showing they escaped to Riga, Latvia and emigrated to New York via Hamburg in 1925.

    How were you able to determine the exact addresses of these Jewish homes and synagogue? Would love to be able to map them on Google Maps for my own research. I hope to travel there one day to connect with my Jewish heritage.
